Seattle Pride Parade: In Photos
This year was the 50th anniversary of the Seattle pride parade and there was an absolutely huge turnout in the crowd but also in the length of the parade - massive. Parades are challenging for me. I enjoy myself the most when I work the edges of the event as opposed to photographing the parade directly. I think this collection of images says as much about the sensibilities of each of the Emerald City Dispatch photographers as it does about the parade itself.

As soon as I stepped in, you could feel the energy radiating from the crowd and the participants. It was immediately apparent that people had been eagerly longing for this for a year. While this was one of the larger parades and the excitement was infectious, I tried to slow down a bit photographically and find the quieter moments, which was new for me.

The “I don’t give a f#¢k” atmosphere and the infinite diversity is what attracts me to photograph this event each year, this 50th anniversary didn’t disappoint. From bikers, street performers, moms, dads, dogs, artists, singers and dancers to naked people on bikes and a huge crowd on the sidewalk, you can imagine how colorful this event is beyond the color spectrum.

It’s always exciting to photograph large events, especially ones filled with so much love and energy like the Seattle Pride Parade. Walking the parade route, I started feeling overwhelmed by how much was worth photographing, which speaks to the importance and impact of Pride. I narrowed my focus to the crowd where I had the most photographic success.
